Who We Are
Horse Sense of the Carolinas, Inc. is a nationally recognized experiential learning and therapeutic resource for individuals, families, schools, businesses and mental health professionals. Horse Sense utilizes authentic learning experiences to foster life skills and character development. Located in western North Carolina, Horse Sense uses experiential learning modalities to develop positive emotional, mental, behavioral and social skills of those who may be at risk or have special needs.
Business Sense helps professionals in the fields of Equine Assisted Practices offer top-level programs in their communities through a variety of offerings, including workshops/trainings, symposiums & conferences, telecalls with industry leaders or up & coming professionals, consulting & immersion programs, curriculums and much more.
What We Believe
Our philosophy is that people don't change unless they are challenged, unless they are outside their comfort zone. The most lasting change occurs when people find their own answers to questions. At Horse Sense, there is actually very little talking. We know that the most effective and long-lasting change occurs through active participation with the horses who, as excellent mirrors, reflect back to people who they really are. With the horses, clients can practice new behaviors in a therapeutic environment and learn that in changing themselves, they do have the power to change the world around them.
Much the same philosophy drive the Business Sense side of Horse Sense. Two mantras inform our Business Sense work:
